Agility has recently partnered with a company to allow each person on our technical staff to take control of a computer remotely in about 2 minutes (in many cases, less).
The technology that makes this possible has been around for a couple years, but only recently has the technology been put to use to make outsourced technical staff truly effective and efficient.
More specifically, if a computer is able to get to the Internet via a web browser, Agility can direct customers to a particular link on the web site that automatically executes a small application and gives us full control of the computer.
The service can be used on an ad hoc basis since the application loads only when you need to use it and it creates no additional security issues (e.g., a specific code must be entered each time control is taken).
Agility has been testing the software for six months hasn't found any major problems. The ability to take control of a PC allows Agility to better diagnose problems, expedite any needed fixes and reduce the amount of time non-technical staff needs to be involved in support.
